Q&A With Beth About Her Tauck River Cruise
Q: When was your Tauck trip and what was the itinerary?
Beth: July 2023 we were on the lovely Ms Esprit for Rendezvous on the Seine (sounds romantic doesn’t it?).
Q: What motivated you to choose Tauck River Cruises for your journey?
Beth: As a big fan and supporter of Tauck, I was invited to cruise with them. I’ve had many clients travel with Tauck; so it was a great honor to be able to experience what they already had!
Q: What was the most memorable excursion or activity during your trip?
Beth: Definitely when we visited the D-Day beaches and the American cemetery. Such a moving day.
Q: Did you have a favorite city or location you visited, and what made it special?
Beth: So many favs, but one super special thing – our 2nd night on the cruise, while we were docked in Paris, it was Bastille Day so there was a lot of excitement in the air with families and groups of people lining the Seine, celebrating and watching the fireworks over the Eiffel Tower. Of course, we had a special evening on board as well.
Q: Which ship did you sail on, and what was your favorite aspect of it?
Beth: The Ms Esprit. Loved the small and intimate size – less than 100 passengers!
Q: How would you describe the accommodations on the ship?
Beth: We were in Category 6 (not the largest cabin) and it was spacious enough that we didn’t feel in each other’s way. We had floor-to-ceiling sliding windows (French balcony) so were able to enjoy fresh air if we wanted.
Before taking the cruise I had visions of us sitting, looking out our window, and watching the world go by. I did this for approximately 10 minutes on the entire trip. It was far more enjoyable to sit on the top deck and do this with 360-degree views!
Q: Which amenities impressed you the most during your cruise?
Beth: I loved that we didn’t have to worry about getting a big bill at the end of the trip. Everything was included! Gratuities, excursions, and drinks are available all the time! Champagne anyone?
Q: How did you typically spend your days while on the cruise?
Beth: We took advantage of the included tours every day! In between tours, we enjoyed sitting on the top deck with an Aperol Spritz or wine and watching the beautiful countryside go by.
Q: Did you make any new friends or connections during the cruise?
Beth: We were so lucky as our sailing had about 60 passengers; so over the week, we met a good number of them. I still keep in contact with some through social media.
Q: What was your most enjoyable meal or dining experience on the cruise?
Beth: How do I even choose a favorite? The food was wonderful and paired so well with the presented wines (usually local wines). A highlight was dinner in a private chateau (I felt like royalty), a Champagne welcome, and a string duet playing while we mingled. It was magical!
Q: Which local foods did you enjoy the most?
Beth: Mussels and frites in Honfluer during free time on our own – Tauck actually gave every passenger money for lunch!
Q: How does this trip compare to other cruises you’ve experienced?
Beth: This was my first river cruise so I can’t compare it to others, but I can compare it to ocean cruises. The ease of a river cruise really speaks to me! No fancy gowns are required, and no crowds of people rush to get off the boat in ports. It is just a wonderful relaxed pace!
Q: Why would you recommend Tauck River Cruises to others?
Beth: Having everything included makes it all so easy! Tauck cruise directors and tour guides are so knowledgeable and super flexible if guests need extra attention.
Q: Do you have any advice for future travelers considering a Tauck River Cruise?
Beth: I’d definitely recommend adding a day or two before the cruise to adjust to the time and perhaps see sites not included with the cruise itinerary.
