Regent Mediterranean Cruise Q & A

What inspired you to choose the Regent Seven Seas Splendor for your Mediterranean cruise?

The opportunity came up through work to travel on Regent’s largest FAM (travel educational seminar) for Canadian Agents. Couldn’t pass up on the chance to experience the world’s most luxurious fleet. Also, being on the Seven Seas Splendor, which was built in 2020 and started sailing in Sept 2021, was a great opportunity as it’s still a new ship.

Was this your first time sailing with Regent? How did it compare to other cruise lines?

Yes, it was my first time with Regent, but I have cruised at least 20 times now around the world with different cruise lines, and Regent stood out among all of them. The service level was unsurpassed. Crew to Passenger Ratio on the Splendor is nearly 1-1, so you can just imagine. Everything was a step up.

What were your first impressions upon boarding the ship?

Regent staterooms are all suites. They never use the term “cabin” with their ships. So, walking into our suite with double sinks and a bathtub, L’Occitane toiletries, a walk-in closet, tons of space and the largest balcony we have ever had…you could say we were speechless and had the biggest smiles you could imagine.

Can you describe the ambiance and design of the Splendor?

Imposing chandeliers, stunning art collection, and memorable tableware. Each area of the ship is elegantly designed, and there is an exquisite level of luxury in each space. Surprises are to be found everywhere you look.

What were some of the most memorable aspects of the ship?

The dining. All restaurants were amazing. Having the option of lobster each night without a surcharge. Things like that. The wine collection was also very impressive once you sort out what your preferences are. Everything seemed more chill and less loud during the day. Then the ship would come alive at night with entertainment.

How would you describe the dining experience onboard? Any favorite meals or restaurants?

Comparable to fine dining at Michelin-level restaurants. The Steak at Prime 7 and all the accompaniments, such as the caramel popcorn Sundae. Also, Pacific Rim and the delicious Asian cuisine. Outstanding.

Did you take part in any onboard activities or entertainment? What did you enjoy the most?

They have a program where you get points for taking part in various activities, and my wife and I were all over it. By the end of the cruise, we had enough points to get a Regent windbreaker. For entertainment, we would visit the Constellation theatre each night and watch the shows there. All of the entertainment crew are very friendly and even offered to have dinner with us one night if we wanted company. Made for more of a family feeling with staff and fellow passengers.

How would you rate the level of service you experienced during your cruise?

White glove. The best I have experienced on land and sea.

What type of suite did you stay in, and what made it stand out?

We were in a Serenity Suite, more than 400 square feet. The cabin stewardess was brilliant. We always had canapes delivered daily at 4 pm before supper. You have a mini-fridge in the suite with all the drinks you want, and you can request full bottles of your favorite spirits, which are included, in addition to all of the amenities I listed above.

Did the all-inclusive experience enhance your trip in any way?

Absolutely. Never worrying about your wallet is always the best way to travel.

What was your trip itinerary? Which Mediterranean ports did you visit?

We sailed from Monte Carlo to Athens for 9 nights. We stopped in Salerno, Italy and Kusadasi, Turkey. Nice thing with Regent is they did overnights in these areas. We had 3 nights in Salerno, so we could get off whenever we wanted and spend time along the Amalfi coast in places like Sorrento. No limit to when you want to come and go. Brilliant.

Was there a particular destination that surprised you or exceeded your expectations?

Turkey. I really enjoyed the Turkish Coffee, and on both days we visited local villages and were able to see the way of life and enjoy some local cuisine. Really beautiful country and people.

Do you have a favorite stop on this itinerary? What made it memorable?

Sorrento. A return for me, and their delicious Gelato.

What types of shore excursions did you participate in?

Mostly excursions that were related to food and drink. I love to travel and sit and enjoy what the locals consume and watch their way of life. Could sit on a patio all afternoon, just people watching.

Was there a port where you wished you had more time to explore?

Not really. Because of the overnights, you never felt rushed in any way or that you missed anything. You were ready to move on and explore a new destination.

Who would you recommend a Regent cruise to, and why?

Absolutely. No need to ask. It’s top of the top.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone planning a Mediterranean cruise?

Be ready to have a trip of a lifetime. I don’t know how you could go wrong here. Some of the best memories I’ve ever had.

How far ahead do you think travelers should book a cruise with Regent?

A year to a year and a half in advance. I would plan early and try and take in any promotions that may come your way. Smaller ships mean fewer cabins. Especially if you want the newer ships, and especially so if you plan to try the Seven Seas Prestige, which debuts in 2026.

What’s a moment from the trip that you’ll always remember?

Spending time with my wife and making new friends.

Would you choose Regent again for future cruises? If so, where would you like to go next?

Will definitely sail Regent again someday. Would love to sail around Japan. My wife compares it to heaven or what she perceives to be heaven. Can’t say enough about the staff and their genuine warmth. Exciting to see what they have in store over the next 10 years.
