The main fireworks event is a fundraiser for local Search and Rescue teams. The best place to gather is at Hallgrímskirkja church on Skólavörðuholt hill, or from Öskjuhlíð hill. They will also have fire engines lined up and ships docked in the harbour to make a raucous noise at midnight.

2. Famous Ball Drop in New York City, USA

Times Square in New York City is a legendary location to ring in the New Year. It has been the subject of movies, TV shows and books for generations. The famous ‘ball drop’ happens at midnight, but you will need to get there before 3 pm, because afterwards it will be closed to the public There are also exclusive Ball Drop Parties where you can avoid long hours outside in the cold, but they are quite pricey and tickets are limited. If you want to avoid the crowds, but still celebrate New Years Eve 2019 in New York City, you can take a special cruise. You’ll still get to see the fireworks and enjoy lots of food and drinks. Prospect Park in Brooklyn also puts on a New Year’s Eve celebration. And, if you’re in the area, you can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge just before midnight towards Manhattan. It will likely be very cold, but the view of the New York skyline will be worth it.

3. New Years Eve 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland

In Edinburgh, Scotland, they bring in the New Year with a three-day celebration called Hogmanay. Join more than 75,000 revellers as they party in the streets. On December 30, there is a Viking-style torchlight procession down the Royal Mile toward Edinburgh Castle. On New Years Eve 2019, take part in a street party and dance the night away with live performers, including Mark Ronson, in the Gardens. The Ceilidh under the Castle will have you spinning and reeling to local ceilidh bands and at midnight the fireworks display will amaze you. On New Year’s Day, head over to MacEwan Hall for the Hogmanay Official After-Party and don’t miss the Loony Dook, where hundreds of dippers march the length of South Queensferry High Street and then dive into the freezing waters of Firth of Forth, often in fancy dress or costumes.

4. Pier One Party in Sydney, Australia

Last year, the midnight fireworks display at Sydney Harbour was watched in person by more than one million people and another billion worldwide on video. Sadly, New Years Eve 2019 might be different due to the terrible wildfires in the area. As many as 60 bushfires are still raging across New South Wales, with more than 1500 firefighters battling blazes from outer Sydney to the Queensland border. There is even a petition, signed by thousands, to scrap the iconic fireworks on December 31. Be sure to check with your travel agent ahead of time to find out what will happen. Even without the fireworks, however, there will be plenty to do and see on New Year’s Eve in Sydney. The party at Pier One Sydney Harbour will still take place with DJs providing the soundtrack, street food along the pier and a large selection of pop-up bars.

5. Drink Glögg in Copenhagen, Denmark

New Years Eve 2019 in Copenhagen will officially begin at 6 p.m. when everyone gathers around their TV sets to hear the Queen’s New Year’s speech. Earlier in the day, thousands will flock to the Tivoli Gardens amusement park – with its world-famous carousels. It’s open from 11 a.m. until 12:30 a.m. Many Danes – particularly those with children – will stay to see Tivoli’s big fireworks display at 11 p.m. Then it’s off to the Town Hall Square to hear the clock tower chime in the New Year at midnight. Another popular gathering spot is Queen Louise’s Bridge. There are tons of restaurants, night clubs and bars with special menus and live music where you can party and drink glögg into the wee hours of News Year’s Day.

6. New Years Eve 2019 in Berlin, Germany

Germany’s capital city Berlin will be an explosion of energy on New Years Eve 2019. Famous for its techno bars, Berlin kicks it up a notch on December 31st. Locals take their fireworks seriously and visitors will discover just how much they love their rockets, fireworks and sparklers. It’s the one day of the year that the city lifts its ban on the illicit pyrotechnics. In addition to amateur firework shows, the main display takes place at Brandenburg Gate at the stroke of midnight. For an unforgettable experience, you can’t go wrong with the Full Moon Party on New Years Eve 2019 in Koh Pha-Ngan, Thailand. The all-night rave party will be held at Haad Rin Nok Beach. It will be an enhanced version of the monthly Full Moon Party that originated in the ‘80s, where between 10,000 and 30,000 people gather on the crescent-shaped beach to dance, swim, eat and drink. On December 31st, there won’t be a full moon, but that won’t deter the partiers. A huge fireworks display will light up the sky over the water at midnight. Known as the Vegas of India, Goa is definitely a great place to celebrate New Years Eve 2019. Tito’s Club in Baga is one place you won’t want to miss. It is one of Goa’s most popular night clubs.
