The Andean Mountains
The Andes mountain range is a vast and majestic mountain range located in South America, running along the western edge of the continent for approximately 7,000 kilometers! The Andes Mountains span through seven countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina and are the highest mountain range in South America and the world’s longest continental mountain range! Mount Aconcagua is the highest peak in the Andes at a summit elevation of 6,961 meters!

Day 1 – Lima
Arrive in Lima and prepare to officially start your adventure on Day 2! Check into the hotel and take in the city because there are no scheduled activities today. In the evening, there is a welcome meeting.
Day 2 – Lima/Cusco
Take a plane to Cusco. Enjoy free time where you might want to spend your time shopping at local markets, go on a city tour or choose to join the Cusco cooking class.
Cusco Cooking Class: Experience some delicious Peruvian food that you make yourself as you channel your inner chef in this optional cooking class. With the help of a local expert, learn all about the necessary ingredients and methods to create authentic Peruvian cuisine.
Cusco City Tour: Take a half-day excursion to see Cusco’s top attractions. Explore this city, which is rooted in one of the most captivating and ancient cultures in the world, by strolling around the Plaza de Armas. Day 3 – Cusco/Ollantaytambo

Day 4 – Inca Trail
Traveling with G Adventures is the best way to do the Inca Trail! Take a van from Ollantaytambo to kilometer 82, the starting point of the Inca Trail. Spend an easy day hiking among flowing streams, and enjoy the breathtaking Andean landscapes, and historic Incan ruins to ease into the adventure.
Day 5 – Inca Trail
Set out early to ascend Warmiwañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass, over a lengthy, steep path. At 13,769 ft, this is the trek’s highest point. By the time they get into camp, most hikers have plenty of time to rest and unwind.
Day 6 – Inca Trail
On the trek today, you’ll cross through two more passes and ruins. At Runquraqay, which is located at 3,950 meters (13,113 feet), trekkers can see the snow-capped Cordillera Vilcabamba on a clear day. On a leisurely ascent to the second pass of the day, wander through the cloud forest while passing by authentic Incan structures. The pass’s highest point is at 3,700 meters (12,136 feet). Enjoy the breathtaking views of the Urubamba Valley on a clear day. Reach Phuyupatamarca’s ruins at 3,650 meters (11,972 feet), the “town above the clouds.” Camp here or travel another 1.5 hours to the Wiñay Wayna ruins, often known as “forever young,” at 2,650m (8,694 ft).
Day 7 – Machu Picchu/Cusco
The last day’s journey begins before dawn in order to get to the Sun Gate before sunrise. On a clear day, get the first glimpses of the stunning Machu Picchu ruins. Before taking the train back to Cusco, descend for a visit to the ruins.
To get to the Sun Gate as soon as possible, get up at 3:30am. Go to the checkpoint and wait in the queue there until the gate opens. Catch the first glimpses of the magnificent UNESCO world heritage site (hopefully on a clear day). Take a 45-minute walk down to Machu Picchu for a 1.5-hour guided tour of the site and some free time to explore.
Day 8 – Cusco
This day you’ll have free time in the beautiful city of Cusco or choose to go on a day trip to Rainbow Mountain.
Full-day Trip to Rainbow Mountain: Watch out over these vibrant, with maroon, turquoise, lavender, and gold stripes, Andean mountains. An amazing landscape is created by the silt, elevation, and proximity to the pacific ocean. Set out early to make the 2-hour drive to the trailhead of this strenuous but rewarding full-day hike. This 14km walk to the 5,029m (16,500 ft) elevation is not for the faint of heart, but these extraordinary mountains do not let you down.
Day 9 – Cusco/Amazon Jungle
Fly to Puerto Maldonado where a boat will take you through the Amazon rainforest to the cozy and private G Lodge Amazon. Watch out for many species of birds that are common around the Amazon River and forest edge along the way. The Tambopata Rainforest region holds the record for the greatest number of bird sightings in a single location. Learn about the region’s diverse flora and wildlife as well as the significant usage of medicinal plants and other important crops by locals. You can also learn about traditional building, fishing, and hunting methods.
Day 10 – Amazon Jungle
Take advantage of experienced naturalist-led trips to Oxbow lakes and jungle trails to hopefully some of the jungle wildlife. Spend some time unwinding in a hammock, swimming, or visiting a nearby plantation. Set out by canoe and keep your eyes peeled for an anaconda, giant river otter, and black caiman.
Day 11 – Amazon Jungle/Lima
Before taking a boat and van back to the airport, savor a delectable Amazonian breakfast. Fly to Lima and decide whether to go out for dinner or Pisco Sours one last time.
Day 12 – Lima
That’s a wrap! Your Peru adventure has come to an end and it’s time to head home with all the new memories you’ve made along the way.
